Songwriting for us is a collective activity. Normally I come up with an idea and Mason begins to add the color. Then we run it by my wife JJ and she throws in an idea or two that seem to make it all come together. “When the Hour is Dark” is no different, however there is greater meaning and sentiment behind its creation. It contains the voice of encouragement that JJ and I want running through our kids’ heads during the difficult times of life. It is a song that applauds them and urges them to keep going and not give up.
Mason and I are excited to have JJ and my daughter, Laurel (17 years old), join us for this piece.
