000Songwriting for us is a collective activity. Normally I come up with an idea and Mason begins to add the color. Then we run it by my wife JJ and she throws in an idea or two that seem to make it all come together. “When the Hour is Dark” is no different, however there is greater meaning and sentiment behind its creation. It contains the voice of encouragement that JJ and I want running through our kids’ heads during the difficult times of life. It is a song that applauds them and urges them to keep going and not give up.
Mason and I are excited to have JJ and my daughter, Laurel (17 years old), join us for this piece.

Chris Taylor
A Side of Taylors is a Cincinnati-based Americana/folk duo that consists of father-and-son Mason (15 years old) and Chris Taylor. They have been playing together over the past 6 years and are quite comfortable performing around fruits and vegetables as they cut their teeth doing gigs at local Farmer’s Markets. When joined by the rest of the family they quickly grow to six and combine sweet harmonies and warm emotions. Mason and Chris are passionate in developing as performers and songwriters and are grateful to share their journey with others.
