It’s my birthday! Bring on the cake! Bring on the presents! Let the parade begin!

It’s 8:30am and I’ve already talked to my Mom, one of my girlfriends, and have had two rather ri-donk-ulus renditions of the ‘Happy Birthday’ song sung to me. Now … Facebook birthday messages.

“Holly Day Holly Day Holly Day!!!!!!!”

“Happy Birthday, Holly! HAM! Wishing you a lovely day! Hope to see ya before too long! HAM! All the best! HAM!”

“HOLLY WALKER! You better have a Happy Birthday or else! Love ya!”

“Happy birthday to one of the funniest and sweetest actresses I know!”

They’re so sweet. They’re so kind. They’re so accurate. (I AM one of the funniest actresses they know.)

Now, granted, some of the messages from Facebook are random. Some people just happen to notice it’s my birthday. To be honest, I don’t even know some of my “friends” on Facebook. But that doesn’t stop me from enjoying the crap out of their messages!

“HBD Fabulous!!!!”

“happy bday x”

“Happy birthday gorgeous lady!! xx”

There’s something fun about a stranger telling me I’m gorgeous. And they think I’m a lady! Go figure.

I’ve also been blessed to get a couple of longer messages from life long friends.

“… hoping you have a wonderful day … know everyone here loves you & thinks you’re about the most awesome, wonderful, sweetest, most beautiful person ever.”

The messages touched my heart. All of them. It took no time to send them yet they made me feel wonderful. Never has a man made me feel that good with such little effort. Neither has a woman. Who knew that could happen?

It got me to thinking. Who doesn’t like to feel special and loved? Right? It feels great. So I decided to return the favor.

DOING THE DEED!

Last Christmas a friend gave me a present, a journal, called ONE GOOD DEED A DAY. It encourages the owner of said journal to do one good deed a day for a year and then reflect or write about it. It has daily suggestions like ‘Borrow Someone’s Car and get it Cleaned,’ and ‘Cook Dinner for Your Roommate, Neighbor, or Friend.’ I like the concept, but clearly this journal has no idea who I am.

1) I’m a horrible driver. If I borrowed someone’s car I’d return it cleaned all right, but probably with a dent in it. And, 2) I don’t cook … unless by “cook” they mean “Heat up a Lean Cuisine for a Neighbor.”

But the journal does have some good ideas, like ‘Send a Note to a Favorite Teacher Telling Him the Best Thing He Taught You’ and ‘Hold the Elevator Door Even if it Will Delay You.’ Surely I can do things like that.

So my birthday present to myself (besides a 1 ½ hour hot-stone massage and whatever suits my fancy at TJ Maxx) will be to give others one good deed a day until my next birthday. And write about it.

Gotta go. I got a lot of Facebook birthday wishes to read.

See you tomorrow.

Holly Walker

Ms. Walker made her acting debut at the tender age of 8 in For Spring is the Season of Happiness. She almost turned down the role of Mother Nature (she wanted the role of "Spring") until she found out Mother Nature had the most lines. On that day, a diva was born. Holly has traveled the world performing comedy. She has been to more than 40 U.S. states and over 30 countries worldwide. She is an alum of the improvisational companies Boom Chicago and The Second City. Holly currently works on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore as a writer and performer. She has been a part of the Rebel Storytellers family since 2009 and hopes to be with them for many years to come.
