5 storytellers were given a daunting task—write a 250-word (or less) story explaining a random photograph. This is Photo Spark 1. This is story 1. This is Steve Fuller with “The Gift of the Margie.”
For the first time, Margie knew exactly what to get her husband for their anniversary. For years, Stan endured weekend fishing trips. Sure, he enjoyed the 18’ bass boat when he first bought it, but maintaining the boat had always been more about Margie’s love of the water, and he had been begging her to sell it for years.
So, she was. With Stan gone for the day on business, Margie only had a few hours to get it sold and buy him a leather recliner to park in front of his prized HDTV. The man cave would finally be complete and Stan would never have to take her fishing again. Margie was giddy when her phone finally rang.
For the first time, Stan knew exactly what to get his wife for their anniversary. His old bass boat had been collecting dust, but not for long. Margie loved going out on the lake, so Stan pretended to take a business trip and, instead, drove to meet a man named Earl to trade his beloved HDTV for hundreds of dollars worth of boating equipment—fishing poles, ropes, skis, inner tubes—everything they needed to have fun again on the lake.
Earl’s wife hit the jackpot. After her husband’s old boat died, he’d been moping around the house. They had so much gear—fishing poles, ropes, skis, inner tubes—but they needed a new boat. Luckily, while driving through town, she noticed a sign from a woman selling her husband’s 18’ bass boat …
