I’m packing for a little trip and I realized something … I’ve got a lot of crap!!

Today’s good deed: CLEAN OUT YOUR SWEATER DRAWER AND TAKE EXTRAS TO A CHARITY

I’m the world’s worst packer. It takes me FOREVER and I invariably take more stuff than I need. I end up wearing a combination of three outfits over and over again and yet I still pack fifteen. I’m ridiculous.

To make things easier, I’m following a packing list. To make things harder, I’m going through every item that I own to make sure I pack the perfect outfits … that I will probably never wear.

I have a lot of clothes, not an Imelda Marcos amount, but definitely more clothes than I wear. The reason: I love bargain shopping. There’s something about that “Save an Additional 40% Off Already Reduced Prices!” sticker that really turns me on. Unfortunately I get so turned on that I buy clothes that I shouldn’t really buy.

One such outfit is a cute summer dress with colors that pop. Unfortunately it doesn’t quite work on me. The stripes are going the wrong way, it’s too long for my short frame AND it’s too young for me. Taylor Swift I am not. I bought it anyway.

I bought jackets and sweaters and jewelry to try and make the outfit work. Nothing helped. This is not an isolated incident. I have tons of stuff that I don’t need that’s just sitting around collecting dust. So even though it’s October, I decide to do a little Spring Cleaning.

I found lots of clothes that I can donate including a dress that makes me look like I’m going to a hoedown, a pair of super cute shoes that I’ve only worn twice because they make my feet hurt, and a Karate outfit I bought for Tae Kwon Do classes (I never took a single class).

I also found shorts and pants that I’ve been holding onto in case I drop 10 pounds. I’ve been holding onto them for a loooooong time. I might as well donate them too. Besides, if I ever drop 10 pounds, I’m gonna buy new pants to celebrate anyway!

None of these items are doing me any good sitting in my closet, but they can, however, help someone in need. I’ve done a good deed AND I’ve made space in my closet for more 40% off sale items. Life is good!

Oops. I almost forgot. I still need to pack.

Crap.

Holly Walker

Ms. Walker made her acting debut at the tender age of 8 in For Spring is the Season of Happiness. She almost turned down the role of Mother Nature (she wanted the role of "Spring") until she found out Mother Nature had the most lines. On that day, a diva was born. Holly has traveled the world performing comedy. She has been to more than 40 U.S. states and over 30 countries worldwide. She is an alum of the improvisational companies Boom Chicago and The Second City. Holly currently works on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore as a writer and performer.
