I don’t know if you know this or not … but SCANDAL IS BACK!!!

Today’s good deed: CLOSE YOUR EARS TO GOSSIP THIS WEEK

I love Scandal! What’s not to love?!? Tawdry affairs in the White House. Politicians killing for votes. Good guys becoming bad guys becoming good guys again. It’s hot!!

Shonda Rimes takes the most implausible scenarios and spins them into amazingly fun TV. It’s one of the only shows I consistently watch … that and RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Scandal had HUGE ratings last night. I think people love it not only because the writing is excellent, but because it appeals to a human element: drama. Humans LOVE drama.

We love, “He said …” and, “She said …” and, “Who was she with?” and, “Where did she go?” and, “He’s sleeping with WHO now?!?” And if we can’t get good drama on television, we are more than happy to turn someone’s actual life into a drama by gossiping about it!

I’ll admit it. I’ve done my fair share of gossiping. It’s like they said in Steel Magnolias: “If you don’t have anything nice to say, come sit by me!” But as much fun as gossiping is, it’s actually very damaging.

The kind people at Soul Pancake made a video called ‘Why Do We Gossip?’ They posed this question to people on the street. Their answers are interesting. It helped me think about my gossiping practices. Was I talking about others to feel better about myself? Was I listening to gossip so I could demean someone? Or did I just not have anything to do?

I took a week off from gossip. I didn’t share any gossip, and when someone started gossiping I changed the subject or walked away. I decided to leave all the drama to Shonda. I decided to find better things to do … like fix my own life.

Eleanor Roosevelt said, “Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.” I’m going to stay away from small-minded activities like gossip. I guess I only have an average mind though … cause I’m still gonna talk about Scandal!

I just know Olivia’s dad is up to no good! And Mellie has gone CRAZY, child! Will Olivia get back with the POTUS or will she stay with Jake? She oughta stay with Jake cause he’s a good looking man. He’s too tan right now, but he’s scrumptious! And is nobody gonna talk about Huck and Quinn having sex in the conference room?!?!?!

Ms. Walker made her acting debut at the tender age of 8 in For Spring is the Season of Happiness. She almost turned down the role of Mother Nature (she wanted the role of "Spring") until she found out Mother Nature had the most lines. On that day, a diva was born. Holly has traveled the world performing comedy. She has been to more than 40 U.S. states and over 30 countries worldwide. She is an alum of the improvisational companies Boom Chicago and The Second City. Holly currently works on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore as a writer and performer.
