This is a song that was never intended to be shared. It is too personal. It is surrounded by fragile ego and delicate emotions that explore subject matter that is too close to the heart to invite strangers to join. I wrote “Howling Rabbit” after reading WHEN RABBIT HOWLS, which tells the story of Truddi Chase who had Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) and was diagnosed with 92 individual personalities. “Rabbit” is a personality which developed in early childhood that held the memories of abusive pain, and when she cried, she would howl like a wounded rabbit.

I was drawn to break open its pages because I have someone who I love deeply that has DID. He is a hero to me. I am inspired by his strength and willingness to keep going.  He diligently pursues healing even though he is continuously plagued by depths of pain.  My hope for him is peace.

Years later I shared the song with Mason and he began to push for us to do something with it. It took his enthusiasm and musical creativity to move the song to the forefront and begin to explore its possibilities. He had the vision. He provided a new voice to tell a story that represents the hope of overcoming and the hope of peace.

A Side of Taylors is a Cincinnati-based Americana/folk duo that consists of father-and-son Mason (15 years old) and Chris Taylor. They have been playing together over the past 6 years and are quite comfortable performing around fruits and vegetables as they cut their teeth doing gigs at local Farmer’s Markets. When joined by the rest of the family they quickly grow to six and combine sweet harmonies and warm emotions. Mason and Chris are passionate in developing as performers and songwriters and are grateful to share their journey with others.
